Welcome to the Pitstop Project, Barrow-in-Furness

We are currently re developing our website - please bear with us

Pitstop is a registered charity with a 'not for profit' ethos and we consider ourselves to be a 'social enterprise'. We are now a well established project designed to meet the particular needs of the local community and to provide a link between education and employment. The project takes advantage of young people's interest in motor vehicles, motor sport and general transport, in order to enhance their education and to familiarise themselves with the numerous career opportunities. We have a well equipped modern workshop which currently maintains a fleet of mini buses and a limited number of private cars but we do not compete with local garages for 'customers'.

This provides 'real world' work for the students, who remain our priority. We do not have the time or financial constraints of a commercial enterprise. In addition students will have the opportunity to work on motorcycles, construction plant, commercial vehicles and the restoration of classic vehicles.

We offer a safe environment where the health and safety aspect of the placement is uppermost and all tasks are supervised by competent staff. We aim to introduce young people into the world of work and help them see the personal qualities needed to work successfully in a business environment whilst also valuing the academic curriculum provided in school. We do not tolerate bullying and all staff are enhanced CRB checked.

A PRE-APPRENTICE BUILDING COURSE

The Construction course has been developed to cater for the increased number of students seeking vocational training and
with less emphasis on the academic element. The current demand for construction skills in the local area is very high and is likely to remain so for some time. There is also a much wider scope of trades in construction and our course seeks to offer an introduction to the majority of the varied skills with the opportunity to progress to apprentice level on leaving school.
